Abinadi The Martyr-- by Kate Wynstelle

Abinadi the Martyr

Abinadi was captured!
Taken to the king
Standing in His iron chains
Within a priestly ring.

They challenged him-their war of words
Couldn't make him fall.
He'd come to know his Savior.
This helped him stand up tall.

It could have been so easy
"You're right, I'm wrong, ok?"
But standing there in chains he knew
Just how to end the day.

He gave a testimony bold
"Break forth in joy and sing!
The grave is vanquished ever more
And death hath lost its sting."

In anger, they approached him
But "Touch me not!" he roared
"Until I've spoken all to you
Put away your swords!"

And light shone round the prophet's face
The priests were touched by fear
One leaned a little closer
And to the words gave ear.

"A light and life for everyone
May be found this hour.
Why teach ye not this people
Of the marv'lous saving power?"

Then in his spot so lonely
Surrounded by his foes
he met the eyes of one young priest
And Alma quickly rose.

"He speaks the truth, Release him!"
But Noah, in kingly rage
Sent forth the guards, so Alma ran.
Only the prophet kept the stage.

The only one who'd listened
Was surely to be slain.
Abinadi had one last chance
"Renounce what you have said!"

"I will not recall my words
Now I have spoken all.
You'll see the vengeance of the Lord.
Oh God, receive my soul."

Although encircled 'bout by chains
With fire burning clear.
The chains of death and flames of hell
Could not to him draw near.

And as before a light shone 'round
The holy prophet's face,
As he ascended upward
To receive his Savior's grace.

Zoe Zephyr
(based upon her recent reading of "Monkey": a folktale of China)
Seeking endless life
Monkey leaves home and monkeys
Brazen fool in heaven

Stealing the peaches
Upsetting Heavenly Feasts
Monkey cares little

Monkey travels on
Battling goofy battles
Against Heavenly Hosts

Monkey spits his haris
They become mini-monkeys
Which gain him victory

Family Haiku
I love to do Haiku
It makes me want to sneeze
Watch out all!  Ah-choo!
