Things I Miss
written the summer of '18
I miss drum majoring
Yale and fencing.
I miss the point
But not pains in the joint.
I miss the eye
When I thread the needle
I miss Dad's hair
But not his speed-o!
I miss the mark
Miss tag in the dark
I miss Lil' and Drew
Miss Isaa-boo.
I miss the target
With my bow.
Miss all those things
I used to know.
Songs I sang.
My teenage slang.
Calculus proofs.
Countless lost books.
I missed my appointment
With the dentist too.
I don't miss potty training
Pee and poo.
I missed the pun.
I miss no fun.
I missed my vote.
I missed the joke.
I miss my friends
Of days gone by.
I missed the ball
Hit way up high.
I missed the punch.
And sometime lunch.
I missed the boat.
I missed the note.
And this last time
As my poem is through
I missed the word
To make it rhyme for...
anyone listening.
After considerable thought I discovered that you could end it with "you". That would rhyme and make sense.
